Tooth sensitivity is a short and sharp pain or discomfort that occurs in response to cold, hot, sweet, or acidic foods and drinks. It usually develops when the dentin layer becomes exposed due to enamel erosion or gum recession. Although sensitivity can negatively affect quality of life, it is a condition that can be treated with proper methods. Using special desensitizing toothpastes, fluoride applications, or clinical treatments such as fillings, if necessary, can help reduce the symptoms. In addition, avoiding aggressive brushing habits and limiting acidic foods can help prevent the development of tooth sensitivity.
